Volunteer & Outreach Coordinator

Purpose of Position:

Promote, implement, and grow volunteer and outreach programs that effectively support UWAC’s mission and community impact goals, and increases participant’s affinity for UWAC. Provide vision and ongoing team goals that align with overarching organization goals.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Provide oversight for volunteer placement at UWAC and in the community utilizing a variety of resources as developed or identified:
    • Evaluate volunteer needs of community groups, non-profits, and general public
    • Pair community volunteers with appropriate organizations and/or projects
    • Develop annual and long-term volunteer recruitment and engagement plans for programs such as Days of Caring, My Free Taxes, and Community Impact Funding
    • Assist in strategic, skills-based volunteer recruitment and placement for UWAC committees, projects, advisory boards, and task forces
    • Act as the primary spokesperson for UWAC’s volunteer initiatives with both the news media and community leaders
    • Represent UWAC in variety of public settings/events to increase awareness
    • Maintain and report on volunteer data using Galaxy
    • Use Results Based Accountability to make data-informed decisions about volunteer programs/strategies
  • Assist in development of volunteer management capacity building opportunities for UWAC partners
  • Develop mutually beneficial business community partnerships
  • Work collaboratively with Director of Marketing & Development on UWAC events (may include planning, sponsorship solicitation, in-kind donation requests, and other tasks in addition to volunteer recruitment)
  • Work collaboratively with UWAC leadership, Hannaford Career Center, and Vermont Adult Learning to support mentoring collaborative
    • Oversee recruitment and placement of mentors
    • Assist in conducting Results Based Accountability
  • Develop and monitor a program budget in consultation with Executive Director and Accounting & Data Manager

Knowledge & Skills:

  • Nonprofit experience (professional or volunteer) required
  • Demonstrated ability to develop and effectively implement successful programs is required
  • Proven ability to meet organization and community objective using a combination of staff, volunteers, and external partners is strongly preferred
  •  Effective written and verbal communication, interpersonal and organizational skills required
  • Must be adept at engaging diverse populations and demonstrating cultural sensitivity and inclusion
  • Must be self-motivated, accountable, willing to take risks and able to work both independently and as a member of a team
  • Experience with Results Based Accountability a plus

Required Experience:

Bachelor’s degree or equivalent relevant professional experience required.

 

Development & Marketing Director

Purpose of Position:

The Development & Marketing Director creates and oversees the implementation of a strategic approach to fundraising which includes major gifts, workplace campaigns, corporate donations, events, and in-kind resources.  Our funded partners rely on the success of our fundraising campaign.  To that end, the ability to establish effective working relationships with Board members, donors, community partners, members of the business community, and other United Way professionals is critical.  The Development & Marketing Director should foster an understanding of philanthropy and maximize public awareness of the mission and work of United Way of Addison County through a strategic marketing and communication plan.

Duties and Responsibilities:

Resource Development

  • Collaborate with the Board of Directors and Executive Director to develop and implement a fund development plan that increases revenue and supports the strategic direction of the organization.  This fund development plan should include:
    • Major gifts
    • Planned giving
    • Prospect development
    • Lapsed donor management
    • Workplace giving
    • Corporate sponsorships
    • In-Kind donations
    • Events
  • Develop and manage annual calendar for various fundraising activities and events
  • Retain a personal portfolio of high-potential donors and prospects
  • Engage and support the Board of Directors and Executive Director in major donor identification, stewardship, and asks
  • Recruit, manage and train campaign and event volunteers in partnership with the Volunteer & Outreach Coordinator
  • Monitor and evaluate all fundraising activities to ensure that goals are being achieved
  • Prepare monthly reports for Board meetings
  • Maintain all aspects of relationship and contact management for key donors. This includes database management and documentation of both oral and written communications

Marketing:

  • Develop and implement a strategic marketing/communication plan
  • Work with Executive Director and staff on all marketing and media efforts, including material and message development
  • Work closely with media to promote a positive message about United Way of Addison County and its work in the community
  • Manage social media and maintain websites
  • Develop and coordinate the distribution of brochures, appeals, newsletters, rack cards and other materials
  • Effectively manage the messaging, image and brand for all aspects of United Way’s operations and compliance with United Way Worldwide membership requirements

Collaboration:

  • Work with Executive Director and Accounting Manager to develop, monitor, and analyze Development & Marketing budgets and make changes as necessary
  • Be an active participant in United Way Worldwide and other professional fundraising groups, listservs, etc. to maintain a strong knowledge of best practices and trends in the field
  • Create motivational meetings and special events as related to resource development and promotion of the organization
  • Supervise, coordinate and empower  campaign volunteers
  • Represent the organization as speaker at community events and in the media

Knowledge and Skills:

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Experience with and knowledge of effective marketing and fund development techniques
  • Experience/comfort with donor management systems
  • Comfort with public speaking and working with the media
  • Ability to assign, direct and coordinate activities of others and monitor progress
  • Comfort building new working relationships with many different audiences
  • Proven ability and willingness to solicit major/planned gifts
  • Ability to relate to individuals and groups in a way that will inspire respect and confidence
  • Analytical and organizational skills
  • Ability to effectively multitask
  • Knowledge and comfort with Results Based Accountability a plus
  • A genuine passion for our mission is a must

Required Experience:
BA in related field, 2 to 5 years minimum fund development experience in the non-profit sector
